St. George & the Dragon

The oldest section of Stockholm is known as  Gamla Stan.  This is inside the oldest building in Gamla Stan, a gothic cathedral known as Storkyrkan.  The cathedral was built in the 12th century and contains this statue of St. George & the Dragon. The legend figures so prominently in the Baltic region, that this is one of 4 different renditions of the statue we saw during our trip.

Beers of the Baltic: a recurring theme.

The Smallest Statue

The Bollhustappan is a small courtyard that is off a side street less than a hundred yards from the Swedish Royal Palace.  In the courtyard is a tiny statue of a sitting person, and it is referred to as the "Smallest Statue".  We were told that rubbing its head means that you will someday return to Stockholm.  We heard that there is a local woman who knits a small cap for it each winter.

Remember, though, its not the size of the statue that matters but....
